boudoir vs. porn

Boudoir is an intimate, sensual celebration of the grace of sexuality. Porn is an ugly word with a derogatory reputation. Let's get THAT straight right now. I get a wide range of responses to my photography... I'd be lying if I said they were all positive, or that I haven't received a condescending reply or two. And I'm prepared for that, it comes with the job. But let it be known: I see a solid difference between boudoir portraiture and porn, and I will defend it tooth and nail.

Porn is the recording of sexual acts or imagery designed to illicit an arousal response in OTHERS. Boudoir, in contrast, is a collection of images designed By you, FOR you and perhaps your spouse, to celebrate what a wonderful creation you are. See the difference? Do what makes you comfortable. If that means a flannel nightgown and bunny slippers in broad daylight, I'll grab my camera. Boudoir does NOT mean nudity. It's a challenge for you to scrape away the years of feeling inferior or run-down, however you interpret it.
So do something nice for yourself. It's not posing for playboy. It's having fun in front of a mirror you haven't seen in ages. It's private. it's for YOU. It may make you feel so much like yourself that it feels all together new.
And THAT, my dear friends, is the spirit of Boudoir Photography.
