So you want to book a boudoir shoot. You've plugged in your curling iron, practiced your winged eyeliner, and then tackle the big, elephant-sized question: What exactly are you going to wear?? The options, after all, seem endless. There's babydoll nighties, teddies, corsets, thigh-highs, and things you don't even know the name for. Heels or barefoot? Hair up or down? Thong or boy shorts? The best thing to tell you is this: don't over think it. There's a very simple strategy for finding that perfect little "something". First, the most helpful thing you can do is open your closet and stare at the contents. Look for pieces that you like because of the way you feel when you wear them. Then analyze WHY you like that piece. Do you like the wide neck? Maybe you like the material. Perhaps you prefer the length of the hem? Or maybe it's just the color you like so much. This gives you basic principles that you can use to choose your boudoir wear. Of course, you could always go about it the opposite way, too-- look for things you DON'T like. "Ugh, I hate that color." "I hate the way it clings to my arms." "The high seem does nothing for my waistline." Then you know what you can steer clear from. Second step is to remember your body type. There's a whole slew of internet posts and articles out there (including a future edition to this very blog) that help you pin-point the cut and style that best flatters your unique figure. Just keep in mind: these suggestions are mere guidelines and there's no concrete rule that says you can't wear what you like if you want to. It's about the way the clothes make you feel, not whether you fit into mainstream "rules" of fashion.
Go out and try things on! If you've never been into an intimacy shop or lover's store before, don't be nervous. Obviously the people there won't judge you; they understand exactly why you're there and will be willing to help! Don't be afraid to experiment, see exactly what's on shelves, and above all, try things on. You might be quite surprised how well you like something new.
By all means, browse the internet for ideas, just don't let yourself become overwhelmed. If all else fails, just go back to the trusty closet. You've already chosen items you love for a reason... trust yourself!
